On non-Riverfest years, we gather our shepherd leaders to preview the year and to pray for the unfolding work of the Holy Spirit. This Fall, our gathering will begin on Friday, August 24, at 6pm (including dinner) . . . and we will conclude by no later than 4pm on Saturday, August 25. Our gathering will be at The River Ministry Center (this is not an overnight retreat).
Building on the foundation of our identity as God’s chosen and beloved people, we will turn to the important topic of INTENTION in our journey of discipleship.
Dallas Willard claimed, “the greatest issue facing the world today, with all its heartbreaking needs, is whether those who, by profession or culture, are identified as ‘Christians’ will become DISCIPLES — students, apprentices, practitioners — of Jesus Christ, steadily learning from him how to live the life of the Kingdom of the Heavens into every corner of human existence. Will they break out of the churches to be his Church — to be, without human force or violence, his mighty force for good on earth, drawing the churches after them toward the eternal purposes of God?”
In Willard’s view, genuine discipleship is the American church’s Great Omission. So, we’ll gather to ask, “What might it mean to clarify our intention in discipleship?” And as importantly, “what might God do for us and through us as we do so?” I look forward to gathering to engage these soul-shaping questions.
Please register as soon as possible, but no later than June 30.
If you need childcare, please register your child separately and indicate which session(s) you need childcare.
