Kids' Community Volunteer Application

Thanks for your interest in being a volunteer minister in Kids' Community! If you have any questions, please contact kids@the-river.org.

APPLICATION PROCESS:
  • Observe a Kids' Community class if unfamiliar with our program
  • Have a conversation with Children's Ministry staff about program and roles
  • Complete this confidential application, including references
  • Complete fingerprinting (forward-monitoring)
  • Read the full Kids' Community Handbook and complete quiz (annually)
  • Take Sexual Abuse Awareness training (required every 2 years)

TRAINING PROCESS
  1. Observe the class and role in which you will be serving.
  2. Serve as “apprentice” along with a staff member or experienced volunteer who can explain the role.
  3. Volunteers will begin serving alongside a more experienced volunteer who can provide coaching and feedback. Volunteers are expected to spend a few minutes talking with each other after class about what went well and what could use improvement.
  4. Children’s Ministry staff will provide training opportunities through the year and volunteers should feel free to reach out to staff with questions.

Note for YOUTH VOLUNTEERS:
  • We welcome middle school and high school students to join us as volunteers! They go through an application process along with reference checks, and will receive training and coaching as they serve alongside adult volunteers. In order to provide adequate training and supervision, we typically do not schedule more than 1-2 youth volunteers to serve at the same time.
  • Youth under 18 are not required to do fingerprinting.
  • The sexual abuse awareness training is optional for youth, but recommended.

Our personal past experiences can sometimes affect our current relationships and interactions. The next questions are very personal and are asked so we can best prepare you to minister to children. If you prefer, you may discuss the answers in confidence with the Children’s Ministry Director instead.
